Originally founded in the 1950’s as a zoo to protect animals confiscated from smugglers. Now known as UWEC, the center continues to be a home for injured and orphaned wildlife. UWEC is increasingly becoming an important wildlife showcase center on the African continent.

4. Visit Ngamba Island Entebbe
Take a boat cruise out on Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and have a day with the Chimpanzees. Boat trips are available at 0900hrs or 1245hrs to this Island on Lake Victoria.
Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will be escorted to the visitor’s center where you will be introduced to the project, its history, the Chimpanzees and their plight.
You will receive a personal orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and view a feeding of the chimpanzees from the visitors’ raised platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence.
The chimpanzees being kept here are rescued by the Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) from poachers and because they are unlikely to survive if reintroduced back into their natural homes, Ngamba Island is therefore used to provide safety and care to them.
5. Visit Uganda Reptile Village in Entebbe
Do you like snakes? If you do, then you must visit The Uganda Reptile Village located at Katabi 2km off the Entebbe–Kampala highway. The Reptile center is home to over 50 reptiles and over 20 reptile species that have been rescued from different areas.
You have probably seen photos of people with snakes around their neck and wondered if you could ever do that. I wondered that too but wasn’t brave enough to lift one up and put it on my shoulders even for a second. Dare yourself to do it when you visit the Uganda Reptile center. Those photos will definitely be a hit.

Spare approximately 3hours for a Guided walking tour of Entebbe City. Visit Historical sites, old post office, the bustling markets and shopping malls. Get a glimpse of the official state house of the president.
Sample some street food – the famous Rolex, a local street food which combines vegetables and an omelette wrapped in a Chapati. A Chapati is similar to a Mexican wheat Tortilla.
